My story

From curiosity to canine bodywork.

My introduction to canine massage began more than 15 years ago in Germany, when our family dog received bodywork following a torn cruciate ligament.

Years later, I returned to it for my own dogs — one navigating a luxating patella and my rescue dog carrying noticeable muscular and fascial tension when adjusting to unfamiliar situations. I wanted to understand how I could better support them.

What began as curiosity became formal education in canine massage and bodywork. After a career in business consulting, I decided to shift gears and create The Modernist Dog: a small, personal practice dedicated to helping other dogs enjoy comfort, movement and wellbeing through thoughtful, individualized bodywork.

Today I live in Palm Springs with my husband and our two dogs — a Maltese and a rescued Mini Goldendoodle — and they are at the center of our everyday life. Helping them live their best, most comfortable lives continues to shape how I think about canine wellness. I also volunteer with the Palm Springs Animal Shelter and continue to deepen my education in canine and animal bodywork, because there is always more to learn from both the field and the individual animal in front of me.

My philosophy

The dog comes first.

I don't believe in forcing a dog through a predetermined routine. Bodywork should meet the individual dog where they are that day.

That means watching, listening and adapting — giving dogs time to settle, allowing breaks and respecting the signals they give throughout a session.

My role is to bring knowledge, skilled touch and a thoughtful plan. Your dog's role is simply to be a dog. Because we love them.

Let's talk about your dog.

Wondering how your dog can benefit from bodywork? I'd love to hear about them.
